Chinese Good Luck Charm

August 8th, 2016
  •   Moving time
  •     Miracle in Bon Air Street
  •   Working, working, Chinese, working
  • ·    Church!!!

So we moved from an apartment outside our area to an apartment... Outside our area, but 10 minutes closer. And it's a really nice and quaint apartment. That was on Tuesday.

So on Wednesday we went to a care center for a lady in our congregation's bible study and the people all were wondering "why are there funky pictures in your 'Mormon bible'?" We  and the sister missionaries taught about how the Book of Mormon came to be and we met Joseph. Joseph is a great man that is progressing in the Gospel of Jesus Christ in its fullness and loves it! After having days upon days of nonstop knocking doors... God has granted us to see His power and miracles.

Went on an exchange with a Chinese speaking missionary and that was a blast. We found a family of 3 who is fully involved with wanting to be a part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They called me their good luck charm because every time I have been on an exchange with them they have seen bountiful miracles.

So we had 4 people come to church today, 3 were from less active families of the congregation that want to be reactivated. The other was Joseph. They all enjoyed church, as far as they expressed to us, and all want to come back! We found a few families that had met and talked with missionaries before and they were interested in talking with us again.

Here is my 6' 8" companion.

Exchange, Destressify, questions

Destressify
June 27, 2016

This week
•  Rapidan exchange
•  YSA exchange
•  The last mission president
•  The questions

So as you might be able to read, we went on 2 exchanges this week. I was with Elder Dean (from Utah) and he and I are very similar in many different things. I went to the Rapidan area (which is 3 times as big as our area) and we taught a lady named Shelby, a young 21yr old mom who is super awesome. I also met a member of the congregation who became inactive.  When the prayer was said to finish our lesson of letting him know he needs to come back to church, it was a long prayer where he was saying "yes father" and "amen amen!" the entire prayer. He said that I should be a pastor because I "got him going" with all the “black Baptist” style praying he did. Yes, it is a category of style of prayer and that should be offensive to no one because of the description that is used.

YSA in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints stands for Young Single Adult. The missionaries we had another exchange with were the missionaries that worked on the University of Virginia camps with young single adults. That was a fun exchange as well. I got to talk with Elder Hollman and we taught a lady named Janae Christmas and Tabitha Jones. Both we had an extremely spiritual discussion about Jesus Christ. Please pray for them.

President Wilson (my mission president since the beginning of my mission) is leaving July 1 and we had a zone conference with him and we had a Q&A session with him that went for an hour and a half. It was really cool to hear his answers to many different questions, gospel or not.

Last Meeting with President Wilson

The final is about something that we as a group of Elders started doing, question sharing time. Every single night we call all the elders in our district (all 6 of them) and all 9 of us share a question. This past night we had a few
1Who in the standard works (Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, Pearl of Great Price) would your not want to meet at 1am in a dark alley?

2Favorite tie pattern

3If you could be any LOTR character, who and why?

4If you could have any pet in the world, what pet and why?

These are the days of our lives
I wonder if God had pets... It's possible from Genesis 1: 25

Also I got a coloring book to destressify. Haven't even finished page one...

Rain, Daly Llama ish, Why?

June 20, 2016

This week was super slow....
•  Finding
•  Rainstorm
•  District meeting
•  Exchange
•  Waynesboro stake conference and a question answered
•  Misspelled the Day? How do you do that?

So all we did this week was finding and little to no success happened. Had 4 people taught and 3 of them I was on an exchange so I didn't know they existed (and still don't).

We had a massive rainstorm recently so when nightly planning was done it was 9:10. We decided to run out in the storm for 15 minutes so we could be back in our apartment by 9:30pm. It was super fun because we could barely grasp the sidewalk with our feet slipping and sliding. Here is the picture of us after.

District meeting was awesome, we have a group of 11 of us in our district. It was just a hoot being with everyone, next time I'll get a photo of all of us.

Our district has Mandarin Elders (those who teach the Chinese VCU students, so I went on an exchange with them and learned a bit of Chinese... Bit harder than Spanish because of the inflections mean 7 different things... But that was fun! Taught 6 people in about 2 hours with Elder Schellenberg  (he was like " holy crap Elder Day we should do this more often" and I was like, "I know! Isn't it great, this is what happened in Lawrenceville on an average weeknight for me".) the Mandarin Elders have been in the Charlottesville, VA area their entire mission. It's kinda crazy...

Waynesboro Stake Conference. So Waynesboro Stake is a group of congregations within a certain geographical jurisdiction in Va around and in the Shannendoah mountains. Staunton, where I was a year ago on my mission, is within the large jurisdiction and we had a conference where everyone gathered on one place. I got to see Jeremy, Landon, and the Hanna family (they were a family in Staunton that I helped teach and baptize when I was there. They said they missed me and Jeremy found me before I said hello and said “hey” and "welcome back". I nearly shed a tear.

Now for the question that I have had for at least a year. The question I always had was a 2 parter. The first part is contextual to set up the question.
1Alma 40:20-23 (Book of Mormon) says:
20 Now, my son, I do not say that their resurrection cometh at the resurrection of Christ; but behold,[...] that the souls and the bodies are reunited, of the righteous, at the resurrection of Christ, and his ascension into heaven.

21 But whether it be at his resurrection or after, I do not say; but this much I say, that there is a space between death and the resurrection of the body, and a state of the soul in happiness or in misery until the time which is appointed of God that the dead shall come forth, and be reunited, both soul and body, and be brought to stand before God, and be judged according to their works.

22 Yea, this bringeth about the restoration of those things of which has been spoken by the mouths of the prophets.

23 The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body; yea, even a hair of the head shall not be lost; but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame.

1So why Did Christ have imprints on His hands and feet if he were supposed to be raised as a whole body and unified and stuff in the resurrection?
My conclusion (besides the thing about remembering us and us recognizing Him at the last day, because that is good but God never contradicts himself so if one person is whole than all will be) comes from Doctrine and Covenants 29:34-35
34 Wherefore, verily I say unto you that all things unto me are spiritual, and not at any time have I given unto you a law which was temporal; neither any man, nor the children of men; neither Adam, your father, whom I created.

35 Behold, I gave unto him that he should be an agent unto himself; and I gave unto him commandment, but no temporal commandment gave I unto him, for my commandments are spiritual; they are not natural nor temporal, neither carnal nor sensual.

Christ and the law of resurrection was to be resurrected to a "perfected" state. Christ was perfect, so He could have the wounds because He is perfect, wounds and all. It's the spiritual perfection that always takes priority.
That might not have made 100% sense in the way I wrote it out but I hope you get the gist of it. The Stake Conference didn't even mention it in there, it was just the impressions I received while getting distracted in the Spirit of revelation.

Also, the VCU people misspell my last name....

I “kinda” want someone to call me Daly Llama... But that won't happen. He is an awesome guy too.

No More Festerchield

June 13, 2016

Elder Wright is up close, Van Buren is in the back and I am driving on Charlottesville roads after driving on back roads for a "good minute" I had to adjust to city driving again.

•  Transfer!!!
•  Awesome then gone....
•  10 new people to teach
•  Bronco Mendenhall ( I think that's how you spell it....)
•  Threeo of Canadian and training

So I am officially out of the Lawrenceville. I also am in a trio, and I am part of training again... I thought the training was done but it is not. We call ourselves the “threeo” because it is pretty awesome. We also have been going finding a ton and found 10 new people to teach. One lady, we found at 8:50.  She wanted faith so if she reads the book of Mormon and has the desire to be baptized and she can regain all of her faith. At 75, and never baptized- she had a desire to be baptized July 2. The reason that I say had is because after our second lesson with her she called us and said she wanted to be baptized in her church that she had not been attending for about 45 years because she did not like the preachers that it been going and preaching for the past 45 years... I just hope she's doing well.

I am a missionary in the Charlottesville first Ward now and in the Charlottesville second Ward is Bronco Mendenhall. Brother Vitale So'oto (we just call him Bro So'oto) is his defensive line coach for UVa. He is legit.

The trifecta consists of me, Elder Van Buren, and Elder Wright.
We have been finding like mad fools (as stated prior) and the one miracle I want to say is when we were sharing a video to a guy named Danté who was checking the oil on his car and we asked if we could share a video with him and some kids that were playing nearby wanted to watch the video and after it was done, a nine year old that watched the video said, "Hey I want my mom to see this video," so she led us to her apartment and told her mom there are "White Jesus guys that have a God video to show you! Come on!" And her mom came down and she herself loved the video so we are teaching her and the other families in the area.
